At the Hammer building I was finding it hard to relate to something because it was all Asian art and I didn't know really what any of it meant. However I saw this really cool jar that had a blue dragon and it was surrounded by clouds. It said that it was seen as an object to symbolize royalty. Mainly I just thought the workmanship on it was very nice and it caught my attention more than anything else.
The third building I went to was the Ahmanson building, when walking around I noticed this really awesome piece by Lorenzo Vaccaro. This is sculpture of st. Michael and satin, this sculpture really caught my attention because it's so detailed and nothing is out of place. It made me think of how my life is like that in a sense that everything I do is planned out and premeditated not leaving room for error. The sculpture was completely flawless and Lorenzo knew exactly what he was going to do and how to do it before he actually started doing it.
The fourth building that I went to was the Pavilion of Japanese art. When I first walked into this building I was very impressed with its design and how the walls were made to look like a traditional Japanese house. I also thought it was cool how as you would walk upstairs there were no stairs but the pathway would just continuously rise going back and forth. Again I kinda found it hard to identify with anything in this building, however I saw a Sculpture and it was of this warrior who defeated a monster and hes standing over him. At first I just thought it was cool because of the way it looked but then I noticed the monster had a humorous look on his face like yeah you got me this time but I will be back. When I saw this I thought to myself it makes sense in a way that everyone going to get defeated or fail at something in life but that doesn't mean you are done forever. The monsters facial expression just made me think of how when I fail at something I just have to laugh about it and try again.
The last building that I went to was the Art of the Americas building, and right when I turned a corner there was this huge painting of a father and his son going hunting along side their dog. It was kind of random but It made me think of my dad and how when I was younger I use to go hunting for rabbits or quail when they were in season. We even had a dog named Sarah who would come with us on these hunting trips and fetch the rabbits and quail.
Overall I really enjoyed the museum and there was a ton of art to look at along with a wide range of variety. All the paintings were different and didn't revolve around the same general idea and there were a ton of sculptures and were very interesting to look at. Nothing like the Norton Simon museum which was a great thing, security seemed to be more friendly and they were not next to you 24/7 wherever you went which was nice.
